Business Administration PathwaysThe responsibilities of administrative services managers vary depending on the type of organization they are in. In general, they look after clerical operations, the ordering, storage and distribution of supplies, maintenance of equipment and facilities, and the carrying out of contracts. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) expects this career area to grow by 15% through 2020 (about as fast as average) and command a median salary of $77,890 per year.[1]

Marketing, Promotions and Public Relations Managers

Marketing, promoting products and services, and public relations are important components to realizing maximum sales. Entire departments are designated in an organization with responsibilities in these areas. According to the BLS, those in this career area can expect a median salary of $108,260 per year and growth through 2020 at about 14% which is as fast as average when compared to other fields.[2]

Financial Managers 

Overseeing the financial health of an organization is the job of financial managers. Top-level executives in the organization make important decisions as to the direction it will take based on the reports and advice of the financial manager. Per the BLS, financial managers command an attractive median salary of $103,910 per year and will see 9% job growth through 2020 (a little slower than average).[3]

Human Resources Managers

Human resources managers represent and serve the employees of an organization. They are a vital conduit for all matters between top-level management and the line workers. They also assist in the organization’s planning on matters of personnel strength required for accomplishing upcoming projects and contracts. They are most visible when it comes to the hiring and firing of staff. You will see them also actively involved in matters of pay and benefits. Human resources managers, according to the BLS, realize a median salary of $99,180 per year and will enjoy job growth of about 13% through 2020 (faster than average).[4]

All of these avenues are open to someone with a business administration degree.
